Maroc Telecom adopts unified governance model to enhance strategic agility

Maroc Telecom has officially transitioned to a unified governance structure, consolidating its leadership into a streamlined Board of Directors. This significant shift was approved during the company’s Extraordinary General Assembly on June 18, 2025, marking a new chapter in its strategic evolution.

End of dual governance framework

The move replaces the company’s previous dual framework, which consisted of a Supervisory Board and an Executive Board, with a single governing body. This restructuring is designed to improve decision-making efficiency and align with Maroc Telecom’s ambitious growth and digital transformation objectives. The transition ensures leadership continuity as all former members of the Supervisory Board have been retained as part of the newly formed Board of Directors.

Mohamed Benchaâboun confirmed as CEO

Mohamed Benchaâboun has been confirmed as the Chief Executive Officer of Maroc Telecom, a role he previously held as Chairman of the Executive Board. His leadership comes at a pivotal moment for the telecommunications giant, which is focusing on expanding its digital footprint and driving innovation across Morocco and its African subsidiaries.

Benchaâboun’s appointment follows the end of Abdeslam Ahizoune’s remarkable 27-year tenure at the helm of Maroc Telecom. Officially taking the position in February 2025, Benchaâboun’s mandate, supported by Finance Minister Nadia Fettah and the former Supervisory Board, extends until March 1, 2027.

Strategic priorities and ongoing transformation

This governance overhaul reflects Maroc Telecom's commitment to greater transparency, operational performance, and enhanced value creation for its stakeholders. The company is adapting to an increasingly competitive and fast-changing telecom landscape, with strategic investments in digital innovation and enhanced services for clients across Morocco and its subsidiaries in Africa.

The transition to a unified governance model also aligns with Maroc Telecom’s broader efforts to strengthen its position as a leading player in the global telecommunications market. The company’s agility and responsiveness are expected to improve, ensuring it remains at the forefront of the industry’s ongoing digital transformation.
