Moroccan pharmacists to hold Sit-In over drug pricing crisis
Rabat, Morocco – The Confederation of Moroccan Pharmacists’ Unions (CSPM) has announced a national sit-in on September 9, 2025, at 12:00 PM in front of the Ministry of Health in Rabat. The action aims to defend the future of the profession amid what the CSPM describes as an unprecedented crisis threatening the sustainability of pharmacies.
In a statement released Wednesday, the CSPM criticized the government’s proposed decree on drug pricing, which introduces new pricing grids without accompanying measures or structural reforms. According to the confederation, this policy increases the economic vulnerability of pharmacies and could force thousands of them to close, despite pharmacies continuing to provide essential public services while facing high social and fiscal charges.
The CSPM also highlighted the persistence of outdated laws that criminalize routine professional practices, exposing pharmacists to unjust legal actions, and called for a revision of the legal framework to adapt it to the current realities of the sector.
Additionally, the statement denounced the lack of oversight of the pharmaceutical monopoly, the proliferation of illegal drug sales, and recurring stock shortages in the market. The CSPM underlined that the Ministry of Health has failed to implement a comprehensive reform in over 15 years, putting at risk both the future of pharmacies and citizens’ access to safe medications.
