Moroccan students remain the largest group of foreign students in France, according to the latest data published by Campus France. Currently, 43,354 Moroccans are pursuing higher education in the country, representing nearly 10% of the total estimated 420,000 foreign students.

Although their numbers fell slightly by 4% in 2024, Moroccans continue to outnumber Algerians (34,269) and Chinese students (27,123). Their presence is particularly notable in business schools, with 8,403 enrolled, and in engineering schools, where 6,035 Moroccan students account for 19% of all foreign engineering students. The number of Moroccan engineering students has risen by 18% over the past five years, highlighting the growing attractiveness of this field.

In contrast, Algeria faces a decline: a 23% drop in study visas in 2024 suggests a significant reduction in Algerian student enrollments for the 2024-2025 academic year.

Overall, France continues to be a preferred destination for higher education and research. Between 2018 and 2023, the number of foreign students increased by 17%, with particularly strong growth from Sub-Saharan Africa (+34%) and Europe (+21%). Growth was more limited for Asia-Oceania (+3%) and the Americas (+5%), which were more affected by the pandemic.

Today, the distribution of foreign students in France illustrates this diversity: 28% come from Sub-Saharan Africa, 25% from Europe, 25% from North Africa, 13% from Asia-Oceania, and 8% from the Americas.
