Morocco Aims for Digital Advancement
Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch declared Morocco's commitment to a comprehensive digital transformation across its sectors and public institutions, citing it as vital for fostering economic and social progress. Addressing the inaugural session of the National Digital Development Commission in Rabat, Akhannouch underscored the government's belief that embracing digitization positions Morocco as a regional digital leader. This initiative is in line with His Majesty King Mohammed VI's directives to accelerate digital adoption, bridging the gap with developed nations and leveraging the global digital revolution.
During the session, chaired by the Prime Minister, the Digital Morocco 2030 plan was outlined, reflecting the King's vision to leverage digital advancements. The plan aims to empower Moroccan youth to create indigenous digital solutions that cater to local needs and stimulate job creation. It was developed through a collaborative effort involving consultations with various stakeholders in the digital sector.
Presenting the country's digital achievements and the participatory approach employed in drafting the roadmap, Minister Delegate for Digital Transition Ghita Mezzour highlighted the plan's two main pillars.
The first pillar focuses on enhancing public services through user-centric digitization to improve quality and efficiency. The second pillar aims to drive the digital economy by fostering the development of Moroccan digital solutions, thereby creating value and employment opportunities. This involves expanding the offshoring industry, establishing a conducive business environment, and supporting the digitalization of small and medium-sized enterprises.
These efforts are built upon three foundational elements: nurturing digital talent, leveraging cloud computing, and enhancing telephony and internet connectivity.
