The Moroccan Agency for Medicines and Health Products (AMMPS) has announced a nationwide ban on the sale, manufacturing, importation, distribution, and use of cosmetic products containing Diphenyl(trimethylbenzoyl)phosphine oxide, commonly known as TPO.

The decision follows a detailed review of scientific data and international safety standards, which revealed that TPO—often used as a photo-initiator in UV-curing nail gels and varnishes—poses significant toxicological risks. Studies suggest that repeated exposure to this substance could have harmful effects on human health.

The AMMPS has urged beauty professionals to immediately stop using products that contain TPO and to ensure that such products are removed from the market. Consumers are also advised to carefully check the labels of nail products to confirm compliance with safety standards.

This measure reflects Morocco’s commitment to safeguarding public health, aligning local regulations with international best practices in cosmetic safety. The AMMPS emphasized the importance of cooperation among stakeholders to enforce the ban and protect consumers.
