Morocco enhances military defense with advanced Apache attack helicopters
Morocco is set to bolster its military defense capabilities with the impending delivery of a batch of US AH-64E Apache helicopters in the coming months. This acquisition is part of Morocco’s broader initiative to modernize its armed forces and strengthen its defensive prowess.
Images of Morocco’s first batch of AH-64E Apache helicopters have recently surfaced on social media, showcasing the aircraft adorned with the emblems of the Royal Air Forces. The North African country is reportedly on the verge of receiving these sophisticated aircraft, marking a significant step in modernizing its military capabilities.
The AH-64E Apache is renowned as one of the world’s most advanced attack helicopters. Equipped with state-of-the-art communication, navigation, detection, and weapons systems, the aircraft features a modernized target acquisition and tracking system. This system provides all-weather, day-and-night target information and night vision navigation capabilities.
Notably, the AH-64E Apache’s fire control radar has been upgraded to operate in maritime environments, enhancing its ability to classify both ground and aerial targets.
This latest batch of high-caliber US-made military equipment is part of a $1.5 billion deal between Morocco and Boeing, signed in 2020 for 24 AH-64E Apache helicopters, with an option to purchase 12 additional units. The comprehensive package includes Hellfire missiles, rockets, advanced communication and navigation systems, maintenance equipment, and a training program for Moroccan personnel.
Military analysts note that the introduction of these helicopters will enhance Morocco’s position as one of the most well-equipped military forces in the region. With the acquisition of these advanced attack helicopters, Morocco aims to improve its ability to respond to various security challenges and protect its territorial integrity.
