Morocco to celebrate Eid Al Mawlid Annabawi on September 5
Morocco will officially celebrate Eid Al Mawlid Annabawi, marking the birth of the Prophet Muhammad, on Tuesday, September 5. The announcement came from the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs after confirming that the new lunar month of Rabi’ al-Awwal will begin on Monday, August 25.
Lunar month confirmation
The ministry's decision followed moon-sighting observations conducted nationwide, which determined that the crescent moon was not visible on Saturday evening. Consequently, the current month of Safar will last 30 days, with the new lunar month starting on Monday.
In its statement, the ministry extended blessings and well-wishes to His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan, Prince Moulay Rachid, the royal family, and the Moroccan people. It also conveyed its hopes for peace and prosperity to Muslims worldwide on this significant occasion.
Religious and cultural significance
Eid Al Mawlid Annabawi holds deep importance for Muslims as it commemorates the birth of Prophet Muhammad. In Morocco, the day is observed with prayers, religious lessons, and reflections on the Prophet’s life and teachings. For many, it is also a time of joy, family gatherings, and acts of giving.
Traditionally, Moroccan families celebrate with special meals, while mosques host sermons and religious activities to honor the occasion. The day serves as a reminder of the Prophet’s values of compassion, generosity, and devotion.
