Oyster harvesting suspended in Boutalha area of Dakhla
The State Secretariat for Maritime Fisheries announced on Friday the suspension of oyster harvesting and marketing in the Boutalha classified shellfish zone, located within the maritime district of Dakhla.
This measure follows analyses carried out by the National Institute of Fisheries Research (INRH), which revealed the presence of marine toxins in oysters at levels exceeding permitted standards. According to the Secretariat, the decision aims to protect public health and ensure food safety.
Authorities have urged consumers to purchase only packaged products with sanitary identification labels, distributed through official markets and authorized sales points.
They also warned that shellfish sold in bulk or without certification do not offer any guarantee of safety and may pose a serious risk to public health.
