Real Madrid renames Santiago Bernabéu stadium to simply “Bernabéu”
Real Madrid is set to open a new chapter in its history. According to reports from the Spanish press, the club has decided to shorten the name of its iconic stadium. The legendary “Santiago Bernabéu” will now be called simply “Bernabéu”, a more concise and international name designed to accompany the stadium’s ongoing transformation and modernization.
For decades, the full name honored Santiago Bernabéu, the legendary club president who shaped Real Madrid between 1943 and 1978, symbolizing the club’s tradition and identity. By removing the first name, the club aims to project a global image in line with its ambitions and the stadium’s new multimedia-oriented functions.
The timing is strategic. Starting this week, the Bernabéu will host events beyond football, including NFL games for the first time, reflecting Real Madrid’s drive to expand into international markets and high-profile events.
This repositioning reinforces the club’s vision of the Bernabéu as a multifunctional venue, capable of hosting concerts, international competitions, shows, and tech events.
According to Mundo Deportivo, the new naming will be accompanied by a revamped logo, inspired by the stadium’s futuristic architectural lines. This visual identity recalls the bold aesthetic of iconic cultural institutions like Bilbao’s Guggenheim Museum, emphasizing modernity and innovation.
The redesign aims to solidify the Bernabéu as both a technological and cultural showcase in Madrid.
