Royal Air Maroc strengthens cultural ties with Sao Paulo Biennale partnership
Royal Air Maroc (RAM) has been named the official carrier for the 36th Sao Paulo Biennale, the largest contemporary art event in Latin America. Scheduled from September 6 to January 11, the Biennale will showcase works from artists across Africa, Latin America, and Asia under the theme, “Not all travelers follow the roads — Humanity as practice.”
Bridging continents through art
This collaboration marks a milestone for RAM as it positions itself as a vital link between Africa, Brazil, and other Global South nations. Having resumed flights to Brazil eight months ago, RAM will transport artists and their works to the exhibition while also managing its intricate logistics.
The Biennale’s logistical needs are immense, requiring robust infrastructure and an extensive international air network to handle the transport of valuable artworks. RAM’s regular flights between Sao Paulo and Casablanca, along with its access to over 90 destinations worldwide, make it a dependable partner for this ambitious endeavor.
Strengthening South-South connections
Speaking on the significance of this partnership, Othman Baba, RAM’s regional director for South America, highlighted the airline’s role in fostering cultural and economic ties between Brazil, Morocco, and beyond.
“Art connects people and territories, and we provide the means to make these encounters possible. Brazil is strategic for our airline, and this collaboration reinforces our commitment to South-South integration,” Baba stated.
The partnership also aligns with RAM’s ongoing support for cultural initiatives, including cinema, music, and contemporary art, while celebrating Morocco’s rich multicultural heritage.
Expanding global collaboration
Andrea Pinheiro, president of the Sao Paulo Biennale Foundation, praised RAM for enabling global participation in the event. “The Biennale gathers over a thousand works by hundreds of artists from around the world. Our partnership with Royal Air Maroc shortens distances and fosters collaboration among countries of the Global South,” Pinheiro remarked.
This year’s Biennale promises a unique platform to amplify voices from Africa and other Southern nations, with key participants from countries like Ghana, Senegal, and Ivory Coast traveling via Casablanca. The partnership exemplifies how art can bridge geographical divides and create meaningful connections across continents.
