Russian President Vladimir Putin is scheduled to hold his annual year-end review on December 19, 2025, answering questions from journalists and citizens, the Kremlin announced on December 4. This session comes nearly four years after the start of Russia’s military campaign in Ukraine and amid ongoing diplomatic efforts to find a resolution to the conflict.

The live event, beginning at 10:00 CET, will cover a wide range of topics including geopolitics, domestic policy, and local infrastructure issues affecting Russian citizens. Traditionally, the session lasts several hours, providing the president a platform to address both national and international concerns.

Recent weeks have seen Moscow highlight military advances in Ukraine, despite significant losses, while peace negotiations led by Washington between Kyiv and Moscow have so far made little progress.

Economically, Russia has avoided the collapse predicted by Western sanctions, thanks to increased military spending and energy exports to India and China. However, after two years of growth fueled by wartime efforts, the Russian economy is showing signs of slowing. The Central Bank projects GDP growth between 0.5% and 1% for 2025, with inflation remaining high.

Since 2001, Putin has regularly met with the press for annual Q&A sessions, which were combined in 2023 with the “Direct Line” program to engage directly with citizens. The format was not held in 2022 due to significant military setbacks, including the withdrawal from Kherson.
