Son of Norman Reedus charged in alleged assault on woman in Chelsea
Mingus Reedus, the 25-year-old son of acclaimed actor Norman Reedus, has been charged with assault and criminal obstruction of breathing following an alleged attack on a 33-year-old woman in Chelsea, New York. Reedus was released on his own recognizance after appearing before a Manhattan judge, with his next court date scheduled for Tuesday.
Details of the incident
The alleged assault occurred Saturday night near West 16th Street and Eighth Avenue. Police responded to a 911 call and discovered a woman with minor injuries to her neck and legs. She was transported to Bellevue Hospital in stable condition.
According to a criminal complaint, Reedus is accused of “recklessly” causing physical harm by striking the woman, applying pressure to her neck, and throwing her to the ground. Witnesses reportedly observed Reedus using both hands to squeeze the woman’s neck and hitting her leg with a closed fist, actions that allegedly caused significant bruising, redness, and pain.
Previous legal troubles
This is not the first time Reedus has faced allegations of violence. In 2021, he was charged with misdemeanor assault after reportedly striking a 24-year-old woman during the Feast of San Gennaro in Little Italy. Reedus claimed at the time that the incident was a misunderstanding, explaining that he had accidentally hit the woman while trying to protect himself from a group he said had surrounded him.
Norman Reedus, known for his role in The Walking Dead, has not publicly commented on the recent charges against his son.
