Strengthening UK–Morocco Parliamentary Cooperation
Zaina chahim, Chair of the Finance and Economic Development Committee of the Moroccan House of Representatives, met with a delegation from the UK Parliament at the House of Representatives in Rabat. The visiting group, led by Fabian Hamilton, includes members from both the House of Commons and the House of Lords and represents the British Group of the Inter-Parliamentary Union. Their working visit to Morocco runs from May 2 to 5.
Both parties highlighted the strong bilateral ties between Morocco and the United Kingdom, underpinned by various agreements in trade and economic fields. They emphasized the need to maintain and expand these partnerships through ongoing collaboration.
Zaina chahim expressed appreciation for the United Kingdom's supportive stance on Morocco’s Autonomy Plan as a credible and realistic solution to the artificial dispute over the Moroccan Sahara.
She also outlined the main areas of focus for her committee, including its legislative and oversight functions in economic policy. Chahim reaffirmed the committee’s openness to sharing experiences and enhancing bilateral parliamentary cooperation.
Additionally, she presented key initiatives Morocco has implemented in water resource management, renewable energy, and agriculture—pillars essential to achieving sustainable development.
