Switzerland names Morocco a priority economic partner in Africa
Morocco has emerged as a key figure in Switzerland’s international economic strategy. During a reception hosted by the Moroccan Embassy in Bern to celebrate the 26th anniversary of HM King Mohammed VI’s accession to the throne, Swiss authorities expressed their intention to strengthen bilateral relations with Rabat.
Speaking to the Moroccan News Agency (MAP), Ivo Germann, Deputy State Secretary at the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO), announced that Morocco has officially been included among Switzerland’s priority African countries under its new international cooperation strategy.
“This decision reflects Switzerland’s intention to deepen its trade and investment ties with Morocco, particularly in sectors like commerce, infrastructure, and tourism,” said Germann. He highlighted Morocco’s strategic role as a gateway to Africa for Swiss businesses.
The announcement comes at a time of strong momentum for Morocco, with several major development projects underway—most notably, preparations for the 2030 FIFA World Cup—which are attracting growing interest from European investors.
Also present at the event, Monika Schmutz Kirgöz, Deputy Secretary at the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs, praised the robust and diverse relations between the two nations. “Our ties with Morocco are excellent, rich, and multifaceted, spanning economic, political, scientific, and technical cooperation,” she said.
This economic rapprochement further strengthens a long-standing diplomatic relationship rooted in mutual trust and a shared vision for a balanced and forward-looking partnership.
