Wix.com cuts 1,000 jobs amid strong shekel and AI-driven changes
The Israeli web development company Wix.com has announced a major workforce reduction, cutting around 20% of its staff, which represents more than 1,000 employees worldwide.
The decision comes as the company faces economic pressure linked to a strong Israeli shekel, which has affected its financial performance, alongside rapid advancements in artificial intelligence that are reshaping the digital services sector.
According to CEO Avishai Abrahami, the company must adapt to a changing technological environment where AI tools are increasingly automating tasks traditionally performed by human employees. He also highlighted currency fluctuations as a significant factor impacting global revenue.
Wix.com, known for helping individuals and small businesses create and manage websites, stated that the restructuring aims to improve efficiency and ensure long-term competitiveness in an evolving tech market.
The layoffs reflect broader trends in the global technology industry, where companies are adjusting their workforce strategies in response to automation and macroeconomic pressures.
