Dylan Robert, former rising star of cinema, returns to prison after a new conviction
Dylan Robert, once a promising figure in French cinema, faced justice again on March 14, 2024. The Marseille criminal court sentenced the 25-year-old actor to three years in prison, with two years to be served concurrently from a previous conviction. Robert had been incarcerated for four years due to another case when he appeared in court. His past criminal activity includes a 2019 sentence of four years, three of which were for a series of violent crimes, including chain snatching, committed shortly after winning the César Award for Best Male Newcomer in 2019.
Robert’s career had been on the rise, as he starred in Netflix's Vampires, the film ADN by Maïwenn, and Sur les chemins noirs alongside Jean Dujardin. However, his success was marred by repeated trouble with the law. He admitted to falling back into violent behaviors whenever he returned to Marseille, describing his actions as a group of "idiots" committing reckless acts. The crimes for which he was recently judged occurred in late 2018, when Robert was only 18.
While initially suspected of being involved in a violent robbery that left the victim stripped and beaten, Robert denied his involvement and was acquitted of these charges. However, he acknowledged his role as an accomplice in a carjacking incident, where he drove the criminals who stole a restaurateur’s new vehicle in the early morning hours. The three other individuals involved in this case received sentences ranging from one year with probation for a former prostitute turned mother, to three years for a fugitive friend of Robert’s. The latter, who remains on the run, is also implicated in the 2021 murder of Rayanne, a 14-year-old, alongside Robert.
