Ahmed Zainoun wins the “Arab Hope Makers” award for his work with children affected by xeroderma pigmentosum
In Dubai, on Sunday evening, Moroccan Ahmed Zainoun was awarded the 5th edition of the "Arab Hope Makers" award. This prestigious recognition celebrates individuals who foster hope through humanitarian, charitable, and social initiatives.
Zainoun, president of an association dedicated to helping children with Xeroderma Pigmentosum (commonly known as "Children of the Moon"), has significantly impacted the lives of children suffering from this rare condition, which causes extreme skin sensitivity to ultraviolet rays and increases the risk of skin cancer.
In response to these challenges, Zainoun has worked tirelessly to create a safe environment for these children, aiming to break their isolation and provide essential protective gear such as special masks and glasses to help them lead a normal life without the threat of skin damage.
On this occasion, Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al-Maktoum, Vice President of the UAE, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, congratulated Zainoun in a post on the X platform. He praised the Moroccan for standing out among 26,000 initiatives participating in the competition.
The “Arab Hope Makers” award is a humanitarian initiative that honors the values of generosity and altruism, aiming to inspire young Arabs to engage positively and constructively in their communities.
In an interview, Zainoun shared that his journey began after seeing a photo of a young girl with the condition, motivating him to dedicate his efforts to helping these children. He emphasized that the challenge goes beyond medical care, addressing societal harassment, raising awareness about the condition, and securing funding to provide protective equipment.
Zainoun stressed the importance of collective action in helping these children escape isolation. His association has implemented practical solutions that allow these children to live nearly normal lives, as they can now play and go outside without fear of harmful rays.
The association continues to expand its programs, aiming to reach more children in need. Zainoun highlighted that protecting this vulnerable group requires a collective effort to ensure a safer future for them.
Launched by Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al-Maktoum in 2017, the "Arab Hope Makers" initiative is the largest of its kind in the Arab world, celebrating altruistic leaders and honoring their humanitarian, charitable, and social initiatives.
