At least two people were killed on Sunday in renewed violence in Syria’s southern province of Suwayda, a predominantly Druze region, despite a ceasefire officially in place since July 20, according to a human rights monitoring group.

The UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported that a member of the Syrian security forces was killed and seven others injured during clashes with local armed factions near the Tal Hadid area in the western part of the province. In addition, one local fighter was reportedly killed.

The violence highlights ongoing tensions between government forces and community groups in Suwayda, where opposition to central authority has occasionally erupted into armed conflict.

Although a truce had been reached last month following earlier confrontations, Sunday's events underscore the fragility of the situation in the region, which has remained relatively calm compared to other parts of Syria throughout the country’s long-standing conflict.
