Comedian Bun Hay mean dies in tragic balcony accident in Paris
Paris, July 10, 2025 — French comedian and actor Bun Hay Mean, affectionately known as “Chinois marrant”, tragically passed away at age 43 after falling from the eighth floor of his Paris apartment on July 10. The incident occurred as he reportedly tried to retrieve his phone from the balcony gutter, according to his management company and local reports .
A phone and a broom handle were discovered in the gutter below the balcony, lending support to the theory that the fall was accidental and that Mean had attempted to recover his phone before the tragic slip. The Paris prosecutor's office has opened an investigation, but no evidence of suicide has been found.
Inside the apartment, authorities discovered a suitcase that was packed and ready for travel to Montreal, where Bun Hay Mean was scheduled to perform on July 11 as part of his new show, "Kill Bun". His agency, Promotion Philippe Delmas Organisation, expressed profound sorrow and sent sympathies to his family.
Born in 1981 in Lormont to a Cambodian father and Chinese mother, Mean rose to prominence after joining the Jamel Comedy Club in 2014. He later appeared in notable films like The Chef and Asterix & Obelix: The Middle Kingdom, as well as TV series including Craignos and Platane. He had over 30 performances planned for his upcoming tour, scheduled between October and May, underscoring the magnitude of this loss.
