Enhancing academic and economic cooperation between Morocco and Ghana

Morocco and Ghana have announced the signing of a new agreement that allows visa exemptions for all travelers between the two nations. This initiative aims to ease mobility and strengthen the relationship between Rabat and Accra.

In a statement, Ghanaian Foreign Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa confirmed that the agreement would soon be presented to the parliaments of both countries for approval. This statement follows a meeting between the Ghanaian Foreign Minister and Moroccan Ambassador to Ghana, Imane Ouaadil, during which they agreed to enhance bilateral cooperation in strategic sectors such as agriculture, security, and tourism.

The two sides also discussed ways to further develop academic ties, with the Moroccan government deciding to increase the number of scholarships available for Ghanaian students, raising the figure to 180 scholarships this year, up from 90 in the previous year.

This strengthening of relations marks a significant development between Morocco and Ghana, following Ghana's announcement in January to suspend its ties with the so-called Polisario, signaling a shift in its foreign policy and support for Morocco’s efforts in the Moroccan Sahara dispute.
