Iran calls Trump’s peace offer “contradictory” to U.S. actions
Tehran — Iran’s Foreign Ministry dismissed on Tuesday the recent peace offer made by U.S. President Donald Trump, calling it “contradictory” to Washington’s “hostile and criminal behavior” toward the Iranian people.
In a statement released by the ministry, Tehran argued that the American president’s words did not align with his actions, referring to the U.S. support for Israel’s bombings of Iranian nuclear sites earlier this year. “The desire for peace and dialogue expressed by the American president contradicts the hostile and criminal behavior of the United States toward the Iranian people,” the statement read.
Trump, speaking Monday before the Israeli parliament, said the United States was “ready” to make peace with Iran, calling it “a great thing,” only months after backing Israel’s airstrikes against Iranian nuclear facilities during the June conflict.
Israel launched an unprecedented bombing campaign on June 13, targeting Iran’s nuclear program and killing senior officers, scientists, and hundreds of civilians. In retaliation, Iran fired missiles and drones at Israel, sparking a 12-day war. U.S. forces later bombed three major nuclear sites in central Iran on Trump’s orders.
“How can one attack residential areas and nuclear facilities of a country engaged in political negotiations, kill over a thousand innocent people — including women and children — and then claim to seek peace and friendship?” Iran’s Foreign Ministry said in conclusion.
