The Israeli military announced on Tuesday that it carried out airstrikes against Hezbollah targets in Lebanon's eastern Bekaa Valley, signaling a significant escalation despite a ceasefire agreement that has been in place since November.

According to a statement from the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), the strikes were launched by air force jets, guided by military intelligence and the Northern Command. The operation specifically targeted what the military described as “terrorist infrastructure” belonging to Hezbollah, including military camps linked to the elite Radwan Force, the organization’s special operations unit.

The Bekaa Valley, a known Hezbollah stronghold, is rarely targeted compared to southern Lebanon, where most hostilities have occurred in recent months. This shift could mark a broader strategic approach by Israel in response to growing tensions along its northern border.

No immediate details were provided regarding casualties or the extent of the damage. The Lebanese authorities and Hezbollah have yet to issue a public response.

This latest development raises concerns about the fragility of the ceasefire and the potential for renewed large-scale conflict between Israel and Hezbollah, a group backed by Iran and designated as a terrorist organization by Israel and other Western powers.
