Kamala Harris to publish memoir on brief 2024 presidential bid
Former Vice President Kamala Harris has announced the upcoming release of her memoir, "107 Days," which chronicles her short-lived 2024 presidential campaign. The book, set to hit shelves in September, promises a detailed behind-the-scenes look at what Harris describes as "the shortest presidential campaign in modern history."
In a video shared on social media, Harris expressed the significance of sharing her experiences and lessons from the campaign. "I believe there’s value in sharing what I saw, what I learned, and what I know it will take to move forward," she stated.
Harris stepped into the Democratic presidential race in July 2024 after then-President Joe Biden withdrew amid concerns about his health and performance. However, her campaign ended abruptly after losing to now-President Donald Trump in the general election.
The announcement of her memoir comes shortly after Harris confirmed she would not run for governor of California in the 2026 election. In her statement, Harris emphasized her intent to focus on supporting Democratic candidates nationally and hinted at future plans.
"For now, my leadership — and public service — will not be in elected office," she said, adding that she looked forward to reconnecting with voters and sharing her next steps in the coming months.
Political analysts speculate that Harris’s decision not to pursue a gubernatorial run keeps the door open for a potential 2028 presidential bid. If she decides to run, Harris would enter the race as one of the most recognizable figures in the Democratic Party, equipped with an extensive fundraising network.
However, her 2024 campaign left the Democratic Party grappling with significant political losses, including the White House, Senate majority, and failure to reclaim the House. Some strategists believe these setbacks could weigh heavily on her prospects, as many Democrats look to distance the party from its recent defeats.
"A lot of Democrats think she was put in a tough spot in 2024 and deserves a chance to run on her own terms," an unnamed Democratic strategist said. Others argue that the party needs fresh leadership, as it seeks to rebuild after its losses.
While Harris remains a polarizing figure in political discourse, her memoir aims to provide insights into her unique journey and the challenges of navigating modern American politics.
