Khenifra: Opening of the 2025–2026 hunting season
The 2025–2026 hunting season officially opened on Sunday in the province of Khenifra, marking the start of a period eagerly awaited by hunting enthusiasts across Morocco.
Authorities have implemented a series of measures to ensure the season runs smoothly and responsibly. These include awareness workshops, reinforced surveillance of hunting zones, and stricter controls to combat poaching, in order to promote an environmentally respectful and sustainable practice.
According to Mohamed Seddik, provincial director of the National Agency for Water and Forests (ANEF) in Khenifra, hunting plays a vital role in the sustainable management of wildlife resources when carried out in accordance with the law. He noted that the agency continues to apply the “Forests of Morocco 2020–2030” strategy, which focuses on preserving biodiversity and managing hunting areas through mobile control units and closer coordination with the Royal Moroccan Hunting Federation.
Khenifra, nestled in the heart of the Middle Atlas, remains one of Morocco’s prime destinations for hunters, with over 227,000 hectares of hunting land. The region hosts 124 registered associations and several agreements with tourism hunting companies and private landowners.
This year, approximately 3,100 hunters are registered for the season. In efforts to maintain ecological balance, more than 4,500 partridges have been released into the wild as part of repopulation programs.
Ali Hachemi, president of the Falcon Hunting Club, highlighted the ecological richness of Khenifra and called for strict adherence to hunting rules, particularly regarding quotas, protected areas, and designated hunting days.
