Lina Bezza triumphs at U16 African Tennis Championship in Cairo
Moroccan tennis player Lina Bezza has emerged victorious in the Under 16 African Championship, winning the singles category at the tournament held in Cairo, Egypt, from April 15 to 19. Bezza clinched the title on Saturday after a commanding performance in the final match, where she defeated Egyptian player Zeina El Gherby with a score of 6-1, 6-2.
Throughout the final, Bezza displayed exceptional skill and determination, securing a well-deserved victory against her opponent. The tournament attracted some of the most promising tennis talents from across Africa, spanning five days of intense competition in the Egyptian capital.
In addition to Bezza's success, another Moroccan player, Reda El Aouni, achieved third place in the same category. El Aouni won the bronze medal after his opponent, Tunisian player Ahmed Dermoul, was forced to withdraw following the first set of the third-place match, which El Aouni had won 6-1.
The Moroccan Royal Federation of Tennis celebrated the accomplishments of its players, stating, “Thanks to the results in both singles and doubles, Morocco won the title of African Team Champion in the Under-16 category.” The federation further noted that Morocco has been recognized as the Best Country in U16 African tennis for seven consecutive years, a testament to its strong performance in various age-group tournaments.
