Morocco Weighs Digital Shift for Legal Announcements
Government explores modernizing legal notice publication with new Civil Procedure Code
In a significant move towards modernization, the Moroccan government is contemplating amendments to the Civil Procedure Code that would permit legal announcements to be published on digital news platforms, expanding beyond the traditional print newspapers.
On Tuesday, during a session with the Commission of Justice, Legislation, and Human Rights, Minister of Justice Abdellatif Ouahbi announced that the draft of the new Civil Procedure Code includes provisions for publishing legal announcements online. This proposal marks a notable shift from the entrenched practice of restricting such publications to print media.
Minister Ouahbi revealed that discussions are ongoing with Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch to create a unified platform for publishing legal announcements. This platform would be managed by the Ministry of Justice, aiming to centralize and streamline the process, thereby enhancing both accessibility and transparency.
The initiative has sparked considerable interest and support, notably from the Moroccan Federation of Newspaper Publishers. However, the proposal remains under review and will undergo further debate by the parliamentary commission.
The commission, led by Saïd Baaziz, is currently scrutinizing the draft law, which encompasses various facets of civil and social procedures, jurisdictional matters, and procedural issues.
Minister Ouahbi underscored the collective objective of devising a comprehensive and effective legal framework that bolsters the national legal system and ensures legal security for all parties involved.
The commission is slated to resume its examination of the draft law on June 25, continuing its efforts to refine and finalize the proposed legal changes.
