Morocco's Scientific Production Barometer Reflects Advancements in Research
The National Center for Scientific and Technical Research (CNRST) in Morocco has unveiled an updated version of its "Scientific Production Barometer," which highlights the country's progress in various academic and scientific fields. The updated barometer encompasses a diverse range of disciplines, from physical sciences to social sciences. It is worth noting that social sciences have seen a significant rise in focus, particularly following the COVID-19 pandemic.
The barometer, released in December, identifies the top 15 Moroccan researchers based on the quantity and quality of their academic contributions. These contributions are assessed over two distinct periods: the past five years (2019–2024) and the last decade (2014–2024). The evaluation process utilizes data sourced from the Scopus database, alongside other international research platforms.
According to the CNRST, the goal of the initiative is to generate statistical insights on scientific research at Moroccan universities. The CNRST has introduced an online platform where researchers, institutions, and the general public can conveniently access and download the data.
The list of the top 15 researchers, or "TOP15," is determined primarily by the volume of publications in indexed academic journals, with a focus on tangible, measurable research output. Additionally, the CNRST is working towards enhancing the global visibility of Moroccan research to further establish the country’s reputation in the global scientific community.
The barometer’s team has emphasized that the success of this initiative depends on the collaboration and support of researchers across Morocco. Advancing the country’s position in global scientific research requires collective action and consistent efforts from the scientific community.
