Police in Marrakech detain Algerian-French suspect wanted by Interpol
Moroccan police have arrested a French national of Algerian origin in Marrakech, acting on an international arrest warrant issued by French authorities. The suspect, identified through Interpol’s database, is allegedly connected to a global drug trafficking network.
Arrest linked to drug trafficking investigation
The 44-year-old is accused of organizing cross-border drug trafficking operations to southern France from 2020 to 2021. Following his apprehension, Moroccan authorities informed the French judiciary, and the suspect remains in custody for further investigation.
Morocco’s growing role in international security
This arrest highlights Morocco’s ongoing commitment to international security cooperation. The country has partnered with Interpol on numerous operations targeting cross-border criminal activity.
In June, Moroccan police arrested two British nationals wanted in the UK. One was accused of voluntary manslaughter, while the other faced charges related to parole violations and failure to appear in court.
Recognition of Morocco’s security efforts
Interpol and international security officials have frequently praised Morocco’s approach to combating organized crime. Interpol President Ahmed Nasser Al Raisi recently lauded the country’s professionalism and commitment to human rights in its security operations. He also emphasized the role of King Mohammed VI in strengthening Morocco’s security strategies on regional and global levels.
