Russian submarine Novorossiisk in distress in the Atlantic
The Russian Kilo-class submarine Novorossiisk, part of the Black Sea Fleet and commissioned in 2014, has been reported in distress in the Atlantic Ocean off Gibraltar. According to the opposition Telegram channel Tchéka-OGPU, the vessel is experiencing “serious technical problems.”
A fuel system malfunction has caused fuel to leak directly into the hold. Without spare parts or qualified specialists onboard, the crew is reportedly unable to resolve the issue. The submarine was observed passing the Strait of Gibraltar toward the Atlantic.
This incident highlights ongoing operational challenges for Russia’s naval forces amid broader military engagements.
