Teachers' Strike in Morocco: A Call for Justice

The national education sector in Morocco is set to face further disruptions as the National Coordination of "Cellule 10" teachers has announced a two-day nationwide strike on April 10 and 11. This action will be accompanied by a sit-in outside the Ministry of National Education in Rabat.

This strike occurs in an already tense environment, marked by the withdrawal of major unions from the sectoral dialogue. The teachers involved, primarily graduates stuck at pay scale 9, are voicing concerns over what they describe as a "persistent structural injustice" and "chaotic management" of their cases.

In a recent statement, the Coordination criticized the Ministry's "policy of contempt" and condemned its inaction in response to years of protests. Despite promises made during the sectoral dialogue on January 9, no concrete measures have been implemented, according to the teachers.

The Coordination also accuses the Ministry of repeatedly postponing commitments and making empty promises, holding the government "entirely responsible for the current escalation." They are demanding an exceptional promotion retroactive to both administrative and financial aspects, alongside full restitution for the damages suffered.

Lastly, the teachers firmly oppose the recently published organic law on the right to strike, deeming it an attempt to "legalize repression." They are urging unions to provide clear support for their demands.
