Tensions Israel-Spain: Madrid recalls ambassador to Israel
Spain announced on Monday that it will recall its ambassador in Tel Aviv for consultations, following heightened diplomatic tensions with Israel. The decision comes after Spanish Prime Minister proposed measures aimed at “ending the genocide in Gaza.”
The Spanish Foreign Ministry stated that the ambassador was called back “in response to slanderous accusations against Spain and unacceptable measures targeting two members of the government.”
Israeli Foreign Minister criticized Spain, accusing the country of conducting an “antisemitic campaign” and barred two Spanish ministers from entering Israel, escalating the diplomatic rift.
This move marks a rare and serious diplomatic response from Madrid, reflecting the sensitivity surrounding international reactions to the ongoing conflict in Gaza.
