Transavia expands Moroccan network with Amsterdam-Rabat route launch
Transavia has officially inaugurated its first flight connecting Amsterdam and Rabat, marking a significant milestone in the Dutch airline’s expansion into North Africa. The inaugural flight, which departed from Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport, was attended by Transavia CEO Marcel de Nooijer and Moroccan Ambassador Mohamed Basri, underscoring the importance of the new route.
Strengthening Dutch-Moroccan ties
The new Amsterdam-Rabat connection caters to the growing demand for travel between the Netherlands and Morocco, accommodating tourists, family visits, and business travelers. Rabat, a city that blends modernity with rich historical heritage, now joins Transavia’s extensive Moroccan network.
“This launch beautifully reflects the close bonds between our nations,” said Moroccan Ambassador Mohamed Basri. “It connects not only two capitals but also two societies with a shared, vibrant history.”
Supporting travel and tourism
The inaugural flight carried over 200 participants to the ANVR Congress 2025, held in Rabat under the theme “Connecting.” This annual event gathers travel professionals from the Netherlands and beyond.
ANVR Director Frank Radstake noted that Morocco experienced a surge in bookings last September, driven by Dutch travelers seeking autumn sunshine.
Transavia CEO Marcel de Nooijer emphasized the airline’s role as a bridge between the two nations. “Demand for Moroccan destinations is steadily growing for leisure, family, and business purposes,” he said.
Expanding routes with sustainability in focus
To support this new route, Transavia is deploying its state-of-the-art Airbus A321neo aircraft, known for being quieter and more fuel-efficient. The airline is collaborating with the Moroccan Tourist Office (ONMT) to promote Morocco’s diverse attractions.
As part of its winter schedule, Transavia will operate nearly 55 weekly flights between the Netherlands, Belgium, and nine Moroccan cities, including Agadir, Casablanca, Fez, Marrakech, and Tangier. The Amsterdam-Rabat route will offer flights three times weekly on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays.
Additionally, the airline’s sister company, Transavia France, is strengthening its Moroccan connections with new year-round routes, such as Rennes-Marrakech and Brest-Marrakech. A new Montpellier-Agadir service has also been introduced, operating weekly.
Leading the low-cost sector
Transavia, the low-cost carrier of the Air France-KLM Group, continues to grow its presence in Europe and the Mediterranean region. In 2024, the airline transported nearly 14 million passengers, making it the leading low-cost operator from Paris and key French cities like Orly, Lyon, Nantes, and Montpellier.
With this new route, Transavia reaffirms its commitment to fostering stronger connections between Europe and Morocco while embracing sustainable aviation practices.
