Zineb Mekouar: Moroccan Literary Gem Shines Bright in Parisian Limelight
In a resounding celebration of literary excellence, Moroccan writer Zineb Mekouar has etched her name into the annals of literary accolades by securing the "Best Novel" Prize from the esteemed French publishing house "Points." This triumph was unveiled at a prestigious ceremony held at the Moroccan Embassy in Paris, where the author's masterpiece, "La Poule et son cumin," captivated readers and booksellers alike.
The "Best Novel" Prize, established in 2013, is a testament to the discerning tastes of its jury, comprising 100 avid readers and approximately 30 literary professionals. Their collective wisdom has bestowed upon Mekouar's work a seal of approval that resonates far beyond the confines of the written word.
Mekouar's novel delves into the intricate tapestry of gender equality, weaving the destinies of two strikingly dissimilar young Moroccan women into a narrative that transcends cultural boundaries. With each page, the author's love for her homeland shines through, imbuing her words with an ardent desire to unveil the richness of Morocco to a global audience.
Expressing her profound gratification at receiving this esteemed accolade, Mekouar acknowledged the significant impact of the prize, as her novel serves as a literary ambassador for her beloved country. "My writing draws its source from the love I have for Morocco and the ardent desire to make it known through my words," she eloquently remarked.
Morocco's ambassador to France, Samira Sitail, praised the celebrated author, hailing her as a "great talent." Sitail's words echoed the sentiments of the discerning jury and readers who have been captivated by Mekouar's literary odyssey. "It's not just me saying this, but also the jury and the readers who have appreciated the journey taken by the writer you are today," the ambassador added, underscoring the universal appeal of Mekouar's literary prowess.
Furthermore, Sitail emphasized that Mekouar embodies the quintessential essence of the profound bond between Morocco and France, representing "the best, the most beautiful, the strongest, and the most intimate" facets of this enduring relationship.
Born in Casablanca in 1991, Mekouar's journey has taken her to the hallowed halls of Sciences Po and HEC Paris, where she honed her skills in strategy consulting and public affairs within a startup incubator. Yet, it is her literary mastery that has propelled her to the forefront of the Parisian literary scene, solidifying her position as a literary gem whose brilliance transcends borders.
