Casablanca unveils state-of-the-art cruise terminal to boost tourism
His Majesty King Mohammed VI inaugurated a newly constructed cruise terminal at Casablanca Port, a major step in elevating Morocco's tourism sector and positioning the city as a global hub for cruise traffic. The modern facility represents a crucial component of an ambitious restructuring program for the Casablanca Port Complex.
Developed with an investment of MAD 720 million ($71 million), the terminal is expected to host up to 450,000 cruise passengers annually. It can accommodate vessels up to 350 meters in length and 45 meters in width, enhancing Casablanca’s capacity to attract larger cruise ships.
Minister of Tourism Fatim-Zahra Ammor, speaking at the inauguration ceremony, emphasized the terminal's strategic importance in linking Europe, the Canary Islands, and the Americas, further solidifying Morocco’s place on the global cruise tourism map. The project also aims to raise the country’s international visibility while boosting economic and urban growth.
The state-of-the-art infrastructure includes a maritime station, a 650-meter-long disembarkation quay, three boarding bridges (one fixed and two telescopic), and a parking area with capacity for 44 buses. These developments are designed to position Casablanca as a premier destination for both cruise and business tourism, aligning with the region’s broader economic and demographic objectives.
This initiative underscores Morocco’s commitment to enhancing its tourism offerings and leveraging its Atlantic coastline to attract international visitors, ultimately reinforcing Casablanca’s status as the economic capital and a leading city for global tourism.
