Egypt and Turkey hold talks on regional conflicts and economic cooperation
Cairo, August 9, 2025 — Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi met with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan on Saturday to discuss ongoing regional developments, including the situations in Libya, Syria, Sudan, and Gaza.
According to a statement from the Egyptian presidency, President Al-Sisi reiterated Egypt’s vision for achieving peace and stability in conflict-affected neighboring countries, stressing the importance of respecting their sovereignty and preserving territorial integrity.
The two officials also addressed the humanitarian and security situation in the Gaza Strip, where instability continues to pose regional challenges.
Beyond security issues, the meeting emphasized the need to strengthen economic ties between Egypt and Turkey. Both sides expressed their ambition to increase bilateral trade to $15 billion in the near future.
President Al-Sisi welcomed the recent positive momentum in Egyptian-Turkish relations, which has gained pace since the signing of a joint declaration in February 2024 to revive meetings of the High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council.
The visit highlights a continued thaw in relations between the two countries, reflecting a shared interest in both regional stability and economic partnership.
