Gulf airlines suspend flights following Israeli strikes on Iran
Several major Gulf airlines have suspended flights in response to Israeli military strikes on Iran. Emirates, the region’s largest airline, announced cancellations of flights to and from Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, and Iran. These cancellations affected multiple flights on Friday and a Tehran-bound flight on Saturday.
Qatar Airways also temporarily halted flights to Iran and Iraq, citing the escalating regional tensions. Airports in the United Arab Emirates warned of disruptions, with Dubai International and Al Maktoum International airports reporting flight cancellations and delays due to airspace closures over Iran, Iraq, and Syria.
Abu Dhabi airport anticipated ongoing flight interruptions through the day. Both Jordan and Iraq, located between Israel and Iran, closed their airspace and grounded all flights following the strikes. Jordanian military forces intercepted drones and missiles entering their airspace amid Iranian threats of an unrestricted response to Israeli attacks.
The Israeli military targeted Iranian military and nuclear sites, killing several high-ranking officials, including the Revolutionary Guards chief and leading nuclear scientists. In retaliation, Iran reportedly launched around 100 drones, which Israeli forces attempted to intercept.
