Morocco strengthens role as a key fertilizer supplier to India
Morocco is solidifying its position as a leading fertilizer supplier to India, bolstered by strategic agreements and its commitment to high-quality exports. The country’s state-owned OCP Group, a global leader in the fertilizer industry, has played a pivotal role in meeting India’s agricultural needs.
Strategic partnership with India
In 2023, OCP Group signed a landmark agreement with India to deliver 1.7 million metric tonnes of phosphate-based fertilizers. This includes 700,000 tonnes of Triple Super Phosphate (TSP), a highly concentrated phosphate fertilizer ideal for nutrient-deficient soils, and 1,000,000 tonnes of Diammonium Phosphate (DAP), essential for Indian farmers to enhance crop yields.
India’s Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertilizers, Anupriya Patel, recently highlighted Morocco as one of the country’s key alternative suppliers for water-soluble fertilizers. Other suppliers include China, Belgium, Egypt, Germany, and the United States.
OCP's global achievements
In July 2025, OCP Nutricrops celebrated surpassing five million tonnes in production of TSP fertilizers, reaffirming Morocco’s status as a critical supplier in the global agricultural sector. TSP, with over 90% plant-available phosphorus content, is highly effective for improving soil health and aligning with smart fertilizer strategies.
Morocco’s phosphate exports have significantly boosted the country’s economy. In the first quarter of 2025 alone, phosphates and derivatives generated $2 billion in revenues, marking an 18.2% year-on-year increase.
Morocco and agriculture innovation
As part of its broader efforts, Morocco continues to prioritize the quality and safety of its fertilizer exports, demonstrating its commitment to addressing global agricultural challenges. The OCP Group’s partnership with India underscores the strategic importance of Morocco in ensuring food security for millions worldwide.
