More than 67,000 deodorants from the Power Stick brand are being recalled across the United States due to non-compliance with manufacturing standards, raising concerns over a broader trend in product safety issues in the country.

The voluntary recall, initiated by A.P. Deauville, targets three varieties of women’s roll-on antiperspirant:

  • 21,265 cases of "Power Fresh",
  • 22,482 cases of "Spring Fresh", and
  • 23,467 cases of "Original Nourishing Invisible Protection".

According to The Independent, the company cited a “cGMP deviation” — meaning a failure to meet current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP). Although the exact health risks were not detailed, such deviations can potentially affect a product’s safety, quality, or regulatory compliance.

There is no clear indication that consumer complaints prompted the recall, and no injuries or adverse reactions have been publicly confirmed.

A broader issue of unsafe products

This incident adds to a worrying trend. In 2024, the U.S. witnessed a surge in product recalls, particularly in the food sector. According to the Public Interest Research Group, there were around 300 food-related recalls resulting in 1,400 reported illnesses, 487 hospitalizations, and 19 deaths — nearly double the numbers from 2023.

The cause of this spike remains unclear, but it signals growing concern over consumer safety and industry oversight. Just last Friday, Danone USA also issued a nationwide recall of its YoCrunch yogurt after customers reported plastic fragments inside the packaging.

As investigations continue, consumers are advised to check batch numbers and stop using the affected deodorant products immediately.
