On August 28, 2025, Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani and Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatti condemned what they described as “irresponsible Israeli actions in Lebanon and Syria that threaten regional security.” Their statements came during a joint press conference in the Egyptian city of El-Alamein.

Israel continues daily attacks in southern Lebanon and occasionally in other Lebanese regions, targeting Hezbollah officials, despite a ceasefire agreement signed with Lebanon on November 27, 2024. Israeli operations are also frequent and increasingly violent in Syria. On Wednesday night, Syrian state media reported that the Israeli military conducted an airborne operation south of Damascus following earlier bombardments.

The Qatari and Egyptian officials also addressed the ongoing conflict in Gaza. Prime Minister Al-Thani lamented the international community’s inaction, noting that recent ceasefire attempts approved by Hamas have been ignored by Israel. He called for an end to the blockade and famine in Gaza, emphasizing that Qatar and Egypt remain committed to achieving a ceasefire, and that previous agreements would not have succeeded without their joint efforts.

The Gaza conflict, triggered by a Hamas operation in Israel on October 7, 2023, has lasted nearly two years. Israeli forces severely restrict food and humanitarian aid to the enclave, contributing to widespread famine that has already claimed hundreds of lives. The conflict has resulted in more than 60,000 deaths in Gaza, according to Hamas figures.
