Addressing Climate Change: Collaborative Initiatives by Moroccan Institutions

At the pivotal COP28 climate summit in Dubai, three major Moroccan institutions have formed a significant partnership to tackle the urgent threat of climate change.

The Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P), the OCP Group, a renowned fertilizer powerhouse, and the Center of Competence in Climate Change of Morocco (4C Marocco) have inked a three-year agreement outlining collaborative efforts in climate education, project development, and scientific support for emissions reductions.

Recognized as "one of the world’s most sustainable fertilizer producers," OCP Group has gained acclaim for leading Morocco’s transition to a low-carbon future. With an ambitious goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2040, OCP will provide crucial guidance to the partnership in reducing greenhouse gases.

Capitalizing on UM6P’s leadership in pioneering climate research and sustainability, this collaboration exemplifies an "effective service" in empowering members on the climate frontline, as highlighted by Rajae Chafil, Director of 4C Marocco.

This timely partnership unfolds as over 160 global delegates collaborate at COP28 in Dubai on critical climate solutions from November 30 to December 12. With a keen focus on sustainability plans and emission reductions, Morocco has assumed a prominent role in global climate leadership.
