Moroccan Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch chaired on Thursday a meeting of the National Commission in charge of monitoring the pension reform file, bringing together representatives of major trade unions.

The session followed the conclusions of the April 2025 meeting of the High Commission for Social Dialogue and focused on evaluating the current state of pension schemes. Discussions aimed at establishing a consensual framework for reforms that would ensure the sustainability of the system while protecting workers’ and retirees’ rights.

Opening the meeting, Akhannouch highlighted progress made in earlier rounds of dialogue, particularly regarding wage improvements and purchasing power. He praised what he described as a form of “collective intelligence” in shaping joint solutions and stressed the government’s commitment to a participatory approach based on trust.

Finance Minister Nadia Fettah presented a detailed report on demographic and financial indicators of various pension schemes, outlining the principles and methodology proposed for upcoming debates. A technical committee, including union leaders, business representatives, government officials, and pension fund managers, has been tasked with drafting initial proposals for reform.

The meeting gathered key government members as well as representatives of the main trade unions — UMT, UGTM, and CDT — alongside employers’ organizations such as the CGEM and COMADER. Pension funds and financial institutions, including the Moroccan Pension Fund and the Caisse de Dépôt et de Gestion, also participated.

This meeting marks an important step in the government’s efforts to tackle the pension reform issue in a cooperative manner, with the goal of ensuring financial balance, social stability, and a secure future for beneficiaries.
